I am yearning for a better Africa,
looking at the present with hope
that my people will receive the best
when they wake each morning
only to be told
their money is no money.
So
I took a deep dive
into my dreams
and startled the ignorant.
And
I heard an echo of joy
carried on the far winds of Africa.
Then I saw young Africans’ ideas—
speaking, painting
a hopeful Africa
on an animal-print canvas.
And suddenly
I saw Africa returning
to her former glory.
The universe will tell the story:
the Colossus is rising
to her rightful place
at a rare pace.
Face it,
or ignore it;
time will unveil the truth.
